Swaraj tractors carry more colour changes across a single machine than most. Blue bodywork, grey castings, red detailing and white panels can all appear within a metre of each other. That is good looking design and a nuisance to repair, because a single scratch across a panel join needs two shades to put right, not one.

Getting a clean edge between two colours

Where blue meets grey or white, spray the lighter shade first and let it harden properly before you mask over it. Tape pulled off soft paint takes the finish with it. Set the tape edge a fraction inside the colour boundary rather than exactly on it, so the join looks like a panel line instead of a drawn one.

How to touch up a Swaraj panel

1. Clean and degrease the area. Mud and diesel film stop paint bonding. Dry it fully.
2. Remove rust before painting. Fine sandpaper down to sound metal. Painting over rust buys a few weeks and then fails.
3. Mask the surrounding panels. On a multi-colour machine, overspray on the wrong shade means two repairs instead of one.
4. Shake, then spray light passes. Six to eight inches out, can moving steadily, two or three thin coats rather than one heavy one.
5. Let each coat flash off. A few minutes between coats is what separates a smooth finish from a patchy one.

Which shade do I need?
Match it against the panel you are repairing rather than the machine overall, since a Swaraj commonly uses three or four shades. If you are unsure, the printed shade card shows the true swatches, and a dealer can confirm.

Do I need more than one can?
One can covers 18 to 20 square feet in a single application. A repair crossing two colours needs one can of each shade.

Will the repair last?
Several years with proper preparation. How the machine is stored matters more than the paint.
